Centre for Mental Health’s The Balance Garden

The Centre for Mental Health’s “The Balance Garden“, designed by Jonathan Davies and Steve Williams of Wild City Studio, sponsored by Project Giving Back, is an affordable, inclusive and ecologically rich space to support a future of community stewardship.

The garden features in the Show Garden category at the 2023 RHS Chelsea Flower Show and after the show it will be relocated to its final home in Markfield Park, Tottenham.

The designers, with a passionate group of volunteers, aim to make the show garden an authentic example of the power of community in urban areas that need it most. Wild City Studio promotes an optimistic vision for urban land stewardship with affordable and tactile ways to create and connect with the urban land we use.

The design aims to highlight how forward-thinking landscape innovations offer affordable, healthy and immersive nature centred experiences in the urban setting, embracing a sense of local pride and light touch stewardship. The garden welcomes an inclusive multicultural community with space for social engagement or solitary contemplation.

Planting will highlight wildflowers and ‘weeds’ as an important part of urban ecology with innovative landscaping techniques to create affordable ways of connecting with nature, showing how urban communities can reclaim spaces as community gardens that offer an opportunity to connect with each other and nature.

The Centre for Mental Health is an independent charity that takes the lead in challenging injustices in policies, systems and society, so that everyone can have better mental health.

We wish the team well in their build up to RHS Chelsea.
