Chateau de Chantilly autumn event

The magical park of France’s Chateau de Chantilly is gearing up for their next Les Journées des Plantes de Chantilly to run on 6th, 7th and 8th October 2023 with a prestigious patron: Jean-Michel Othoniel.

Over 200 of Europe’s most highly specialised nursery gardeners and exhibitors are expected to attend, some for the first time. The event is a place to discuss, discover and showcase garden trends and new plants. The three-day event will include planting workshops, advice, meetings, launches of new varieties and garden tours.

Not only will visitors discover hard-to-find plants they will also discover trees and shrubs adapted to climate change and identified by nursery specialists.

Jean-Michel was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 2018 in the sculpture section. He weaves a multi-coloured universe that brings poetry to the world. Glass from Murano and further afield is his signature material. In 2021, this master in colourful glass brought a sparkle to the gardens and spaces of the Petit Palais with rivers and knots in his preferred medium. He has also created three gilded glass sculpture fountains for the grounds of the Chateau de Versailles.

The event will display autumn and its fabulous palette of warm tones – the deep orange of crocosmias and Japanese maples, the purple tinge of asters, the silky inflorenscences of grasses. The role of colour is not limited to being purely decorative as it is as important as the volumes, lines or perspectives that shape a garden, creating a distinctive ambience, accentuating particular areas of the garden and soothing or energising a dense group of trees or shrubs.
