Finding and working with a professional garden designer
The Society of Garden Designers (SGD) has produced a short consumer-focused film designed to explain the process in finding and working with a professional garden designer.
The film features interviews with three Registered Members of the Society – Lee Bestall MSGD, Helen Elks-Smith MSGD and Adolfo Harrison MSGD – while also highlighting the process and stages involved in commissioning a Registered Member from the initial brief through to the finished garden.

The film has been shot in various locations and includes interviews with clients who share their positive experiences of working with two of the designers featured in the film and the world of landscape contractors involved in projects.
Richly illustrated with images of over 50 finished gardens, the film demonstrates the range of design styles and the scope of projects being undertaken by SGD designers.
The film will be available to view on the SGD YouTube channel and included on the new SGD website when it launches in September 2019. We reproduce it below with kind permission of the SGD.
Sarah Morgan, Chair of the SGD points out that the Society wanted to take the opportunity to demystify the process of working with a professional garden designer and show the public that the wide range of services offered by members are accessible to all: “I feel sure that our Members will use and distribute the film widely and that it will further reinforce the importance of working with a Registered Member of the SGD,” she said.
The SGD has been championing excellence in garden design since 1981 and counts some of the UK’s leading garden and landscape designers among its growing membership. You can find out more about the SGD by visiting: www.sgd.org.uk
