Great gardens of the USA feature at RHS Hampton Court
Brand USA, the destination marketing organization for the United States, returns to RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show in July 2016 with an increased presence of three specially designed gardens.
They will partner with Austin CVB, the Charleston Area CVB and the state of Oregon to bring a floral flavor of the USA to the world famous flower show, with three bespoke gardens will bring the highlights from each destination.
Under the umbrella ‘Great Gardens of the USA’, The Austin Garden, The Charleston Garden and The Oregon Garden, will all be designed by UK based designer Sadie May Stowell, who previously worked on the award-winning gardens last year. For the 2016 event Sadie will endeavour to capture the essence of Austin, Texas; Charleston, South Carolina and Oregon, bringing to life the diverse culture and stunning landscapes of the destinations.
The Austin garden will capture the natural beauty of the landscape and gardens around Austin, Texas, taking inspiration from the Lady Bird Wildflower Centre, Blackland Prairie and Edward Plateau, incorporating plants and habitats of those areas. Corton steel and sandstone – materials commonly used in the region – will be incorporated into the design. Boulders will create the feel of the Texan landscape and planting will include Echinacea, Acacia, Agave and Coreopsis.
The centre space of the Charleston Garden is designed to capture the spirit, charm and elegance of Charleston, while offering a sense of the history, the sub-tropical climate and the atmosphere of the southern city. Taking inspiration from Charleston’s famous hidden gardens the design incorporates iconic elements such as wrought iron gates and railings as well as rendered walls. Planting will display a rich tapestry of greens and will include sub-tropical plants.
The Oregon Garden is designed to capture the natural beauty of the landscape of Oregon and takes its inspiration from the landscape of the State, its mountains, wine country and scenic gorges. Planting includes Lupins, Sidalcea, Achillea and Deschampsia.
Chris Thompson, President and CEO of Brand USA is delighted to be returning to RHS Hampton Court: “Showcasing the cities of Austin and Charleston, as well as the state of Oregon through the development of these inspirational gardens will provide visitors to the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show with a real sense of the relevant authenticity of each of these three destinations,” he said.
The show gardens also coincide with the centennial of the National Parks Service in August 2016. RHS Hampton Court Flower Show runs from 5th to 10th July.
