MyGardenSchool expands with new online courses
MyGardenSchool, the popular online horticulture and gardening courses website, has recently raised significant new investment in the business with the result that they are now able to offer an increased number of new courses.
In 2016 MyGardenSchool won the Garden Media Guild Website of the Year Award and following a very successful year, the additional investment – attracted from acclaimed education and e-commerce investors – will see the concept go from strength to strength.
Their gardening courses are taught by best-selling authors, acclaimed garden designers and RHS Chelsea Flower Show Gold Medal winners and with over 30 courses to choose from there is something for everyone at every level.
Elspeth Briscoe, CEO/Founder of MyGardenSchool has worked hard to build up a wide range of quality online gardening and horticulture courses, with the result that they are now attracting students from all over the world.
Partners now include The Guardian, Royal Horticultural Society, the British Association of Landscape Industries, the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and the Mumsnet Academy. Top horticulturists Dr Noel Kingsbury and Andrew McIndoe are also investors in the business as well as being syllabus and content advisors.
The latest courses to join the expanding range on offer is ‘Designing City & Urban Gardens‘ with Annie Guilfoyle, (pictured left) who has joined MyGardenSchool from KLC where she was head of garden design for 15 years. Annie’s new course helps people design small and difficult spaces, creating beautiful sanctuaries in city and urban areas. Elspeth points out that they have so far had a lot of demand from the rest of Europe and the U.S. for this course.
The other new course, which is likely to be highly popular, is ‘Herbs‘ with Dr Rachel Petherham – an aptly timed course as this is the perfect time of year to get people planting their herb gardens ready for summer cooking. Suitable for beginners through to real enthusiasts alike, this course can be booked now.
Having completed a number of MyGardenSchool courses myself, I can vouch for the convenient, enjoyable and easy way they are taught. The added bonus of being able to connect and learn from some of the best horticulturists and designers in their field is priceless. With each course you get a syllabus put together by world experts, unique documentary style video lectures, combined with personal advice, and collaborative input from your peers on your own garden. You complete the course from the convenience of your own armchair and computer so nothing could be easier.
Outlining the new course ‘Designing City & Urban Gardens’ Elspeth points out that there are millions of enthusiasts out there who would love to make the most of their outdoor space: “Some are passionate about plants, but many who simply would like a world class garden designer to help them optimise their outside space for entertaining and relaxing in. Particularly in urban and city gardens, people are often unsure how to make a narrow or small dark space into an oasis,” she said.
Top designers and horticulturists like Piet Oudolf, Noel Kingsbury, and Annie Guilfoyle are embracing the opportunity to impart their knowledge, alongside the more traditional forms of hands-on designing gardens in person and with the advances in technology and online tuition this is an excellent way of opening opportunities to a much wider audience.
