New Peony varieties awarded AGM
Primrose Hall Peonies, a specialist peony nursery, has recently been awarded several AGM’s (Award of Garden Merit) by the RHS in respect of 39 of the Paeonia varieties, grown in the peony trial at RHS Wisley.
THE RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal award-winning nursery, also holds the Plant Heritage National Collection for unusual Intersectional or ltoh peony varieties. Based at their eight-acre nursery in rural Bedfordshire, Primrose Hall owner and master peony grower Alec White, ensures that every peony plant grown on the nursery is nurtured with love and care to make sure they are the best quality before they move to your gardens.
The award of an AGM demonstrates that a plant is of outstanding excellence for ordinary garden decoration or use and must not require highly specialist growing conditions or care. They must not be particularly susceptible to any pest or disease and be available in the UK. A good constitution and stability in form and colour are two other requirements.
A RHS Award of Garden Merit helps gardeners choose the best plants for their gardens as they know that the plant will perform reliably in the garden for many years. They are not given out lightly but after annual plant trials which can last from one to several years before being judged.
Among the Paeonia varities awarded the AGM is the delightful Paeonia Bouquet Perfect, with its neat habit and lovely balance of foliage to flower. It also has a beautiful flower shape.(pictured left above)
Paeonia Florence Nicholls is a short, strong and upright plant, with slightly ruffled flowers. It has a lovely transition from blush pink to cream.(pictured right below)
Paeonia Anemoniflora Rosea has pretty nodding flowers and a simple charm with a neat habit.
Paeonia lactiflora Claire de Lune (pictured banner above) is sure to be a firm favourite with its beautiful pale yellow flowers and neat healthy appearance.
Alec is passionate about Peonies and has won multiple awards for his plants. He also grows one of the largest selections of rare and extremely collectable peonies for sale in the UK.
