Singapore Garden Festival returns in August

Jim-fogartySingapore goes into full bloom between 16th to 24th August, 2014, with the grandest gardens and finest floral displays at the biennial Singapore Garden Festival (SGF). The Festival brings together top international award-winning landscape and garden designers, florists and horticulturists and this year includes a number of top UK designers.

The Festival will be situated in Gardens by the Bay, an integral part of Singapore’s ‘City in a Garden’ vision and is organized by the National Parks Board and Gardens by the Bay. Visitors will be treated to a visual fiesta of exquisite tropical garden and floral displays created by more than 30 internationally acclaimed garden and floral designers.

There is a strong contingent of designers from the UK including Adam Frost, Andrew Wilson and Gavin McWilliam, Andy Sturgeon and Chris Beardshaw.

Adam will be participating at the Festival for the first time and is exhibiting in the Fantasy category. Adam is known for creating gardens which are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. He recently won Gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (2014).

Andrew and Gavin are also participating for the first time with a garden in the Landscape category. Adam and Gavin are founders and directors at the Wilson McWilliam Studio, one of the UK’s leading garden design practices. Their entry into the Suncheon Bay Garden Expo 2013 in South Korea, saw them pick up the Grand Winner prize.


Also exhibiting in the Landscape category is Andy Sturgeon, who will be exhibiting for the third time at the Festival. In 2012 he was awarded a Gold Medal as well as a Horticultural Excellence Award for ‘Upper Hand’.. (design pictured above). Andy has won numerous awards at internationally renowned competitions and has recently set up Garden Design Asia, in partnership with designers Jim Fogarty (Australia) as well as Stephen Caffyn and Ronnie Tan (Singapore). Andy is a multi-award winning RHS medal winner including Gold at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (2012).

Chris Beardshaw will be designing a garden in the Fantasy category on his first appearance at the SGF. Chris is currently working on Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons for Raymond Blanc while lecturing to undergraduates at Duchy College. Among his accolades in the past twelve months has been the Award of the White Lily from Moscow Flower Show (June 2013) and a Gold Medal from RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, (2012).

Paul-Martin,-GoldAs well as the Fantasy and Landscape Show Gardens, one of the key highlights of the SGF is the Orchid Extravaganza, showcasing the rich and diverse heritage of orchids from around the world. Visitors will also be able to enjoy Balcony Gardens, Floral Table Top displays, Miniature Garden displays and exhibits by 34 groups of community gardeners, who compete for the best show garden in their category.
