Yorkshire is the inspiration for sponsor Zoflora for their show garden at this year’s RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

Designed by Helen Elks-Smith, the garden takes inspiration from Yorkshire’s rolling countryside, where the household brand was established over 90 years ago.

The ‘Outstanding Natural Beauty’ garden will be sculpted to form gentle undulations, reflecting the landscape of the county’s hills and dales. A stream will gently flow through the garden and under a stone bridge, softly meandering through distinctive sections of the garden, incorporating a ‘field boundary’ to represent arable crops, a wildflower meadow and woodland.

Terracing and a seating area will be formed by using a curved drystone wall, with weathered steel set into the walls which will appear to have fractured the stone, representing powerful tree roots. The walling at one end is made up of large boulders, much as you see in the Yorkshire countryside. The garden will be enclosed by a moat with brightly coloured fragrant plants, creating a tranquil place from which to view the rest of the garden.

Planting will compliment the hard materials used in the garden and will include rich reds such as Rosa ‘Munstead Wood’ and the warm orange of Achillea ‘Walther Funcke’.

Senior brand manager, Sarah Fozzard, comments that sponsoring the garden at Hampton Court is a great alignment for the brand, as the fragrances within the product range are expertly crafted to represent scents found within natural surroundings: “Using Yorkshire as a theme for the garden was a natural choice for us, as we’re very proud of our heritage,” said Sarah. “Helen’s design is really striking and attempts to encompass the key elements that make large parts of Yorkshire designated ‘Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. We’re looking forward to seeing the design coming together and unveiling it to everyone on the 5 July.”

Designer, Helen Elks-Smith is overjoyed to have partnered with the sponsor remarking that paying homage to the county was a fantastic idea as its countryside has many wonderful aspects to celebrate: “I’m confident that the overall design will impress and wow those attending the event,” she said.

The ‘Outstanding Natural Beauty Garden’ is in the Show Garden category RHS Hampton Court Flower Show which runs from 5th to 10th July, 2016.
